Catholics and Homosexuality
We all struggle with different things in life. Some of us struggle with depression while others struggle with addictions, and still others struggle with same sex attraction. As I was listening to the CD From Love, By Love, For Love by Fr. Michael Schmitz, I began to realize that most people do not understand what the Catholic Church believes about homosexuality. In his CD, Fr. Schmitz emphasizes that every person, regardless of their attractions, is a child of God, and that no struggle – no challenge, is worse than the other. This means that while some people struggle with same sex attraction, they are not any worse than those of us who struggle with addictions or depression. While the Catholic Church does not condone homosexual sex because it violates the nature of sex (to be procreative and unitive), they do not condemn those who have homosexual attractions. They believe that everyone, homosexual or not, is created From Love, By Love, For Love*.
